Ivan Schwarz is a 20-year veteran of the film industry with rich experience. Ivan has worked on significant productions, such as HBO’s hit television series Band of Brothers and Entourage, and has worked alongside top industry professionals, such as Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.
Ivan was recruited to join the leadership of The Greater Cleveland Film Commission as Vice President in October of 2006, and took over as Executive Director in August of 2007. Upon joining the Film Commission, Ivan became a lead advocate in the effort to pass a statewide film tax incentive to promote filming in Ohio and support the local film workforce. In July 2009, the state passed the Ohio Film Tax Credit which provides $30 million in credits to film, television and other media productions.
The Film Commission works with public and private partners to invest in local workforce, promote Northeast Ohio as an ideal location for national and international film production and to create a nurturing environment for the local film industry to grow and thrive. The Film Commission offers workforce development programs which are designed to provide local talent with the tools they need to succeed in the industry and are created in consultation with industry experts and in partnership with local colleges and universities; aggressively pursues film and media production and ancillary businesses that can make a significant impact on the local economy; serves as a one-stop-shop for local, national and international filmmakers and producers to ensure great filming experiences; and advocates for optimal public policy and promote local production activity within the community.
Ivan believes that Cleveland is a great place to make movies and he is dedicated to strengthening the film industry and helping to build a strong, experienced and competitive local workforce. He resides in Cleveland Heights with his wife, Katia and their two daughters.
